Why should you remove your chat in League of Legends?
It’s hard not to come by toxic players or feeders in League of Legends. As you progress through the ranks you will meet more and more toxicity and salt. One can try to explain it by their frustration of failing at something that they spent so much time on, the competitiveness of the game or anything else. The fact still stands that LoL is full of crying babies and trolls. That’s why Riot gave us possibility of muting the chat whenever we feel like doing it.
To some this option might be enough, but muting is a temporary solution, you need to do it every single game and every once in a while you will think to yourself: “Maybe i will have a fun chat with someone” just to get slapped in the face by the ever present toxicity. That’s why i want to show you a permanent way of disallowing yourself from getting chat restriction for defending yourself or just telling Lucian that he should start his feeding program in Africa and not in your game.
How to permanently disable LoL chat
You can remove your chat in two ways:
- Turn off visibility of the chat
- Disable possibility of writing something
Obviously you can use both methods to turn off any means of communication. Just keep in mind you won’t be able to track summoners and see pings in chat.
Remove chat
This step is similar to our How to appear offline guide
Turn on LoL client and login to your account.
Go to the directory where you installed League of Legends, default is C:/Riot Games/League of Legends/Config/
Find PersistedSettings.json and open it with notepad.
All you need to do now is find “name”: “ChatScale” and change it’s value to -100. It should look like this after the change:
Make sure to keep the formatting intact to preserve functionality of the file. To save the file you will need to run any game. Practice mode is good enough.
Disable possibility of writting
Download and install a program called Auto HotKey
When you install this software create a new notepad file and paste this code into it:
#NoTrayIcon
#ifwinactive League of Legends (TM) Client
*Enter::return
*NumpadEnter::return
Name it disablechat.ahk and change save as type to All files and click save.
Now run the file that you’ve just created and you are done.
