Hextech chests a part of Hextech crafting system allow players to earn loot for free by scoring an S-, S or S+ grade by one of their premade teammates or themselves in Summoners Rift or ARAM. You can get only one chest per champion for the entire season and unlock one chest per week (stores up to 4 chests). Read below to explore what are drop rates for chests, masterwork chests, honor orbs and capsules.
What are chests drop rates?
After opening a 
chest with a 
key you get a semi-random chance for:
- 50% for random skin. According to riot all skins have equal dropping chance but according to this study legacy content has higher chance of dropping than it should based on the amount of legacy skins compared to all skins. To prevent frustration of players riot implemented a change that guarantees you a skin every third chest. Keep in mind that mythic skins have seperate drop rate.
- 25% for Champion Shard
- 10% for Emote permanent
- 3.5% for 150
+ Summoner Icon Shard - 11.5% for 150 + Ward Skin Shard
On top of usual drop you can also get this rewards in the same chest:
- 10% for Hextech Chest and Hextech Key.
- 3.6% for
Gemstone. You will get at least one gemstone every 50 chests. - 0.04% for Mythic Skin
What are Masterwork chests drop rates?
Are special chests that you can only obtain in riot shop for 225 RP Chest+Key. They have higher drop rate of skins and you can’t get 390 RP skins from them. Other drops are:
- 70% for champion skin shard
- 10% for 525
- 10% for Emote Permanent
- Ward Skin Shard + 150
Additional drops are:

What are Honor Orbs drop rates?
drop whenever you hit honor checkpoints at levels 2-5.
- Level 2 orb gives you two
key fragments - Level 3 gives you two key fragments +
150 or a higher champion shard. - Level 4 gives you two key fragments + 200 or a higher champion shard.
- Level 5 doesn’t have checkpoints, but gives you rewards as if you hit it whenever you reach set amount of honor. Each orb gives you three key fragments + 200 or a higher champion shard.
What are Honor Capsules drop rates?
- Level 2 gives you one key.
- Level 3 gives you three key fragments + one ward skin + 300 or a higher champion shard.
- Level 4 gives you four key fragments + one emote + 630 or a higher champion shard.
- Level 5 gives you five key fragments + 960 or a higher champion shard +
